A welcome to the school year from the incoming NZAIMS President, Sharon Keen - Casebrook Intermediate, Christchurch.

Kia ora e hoa ma

I am Sharon Keen and as the new President of New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schooling (NZAIMS) I would like to welcome you to the new school year. I am very honoured to represent you as President.

Currently the Principal of Casebrook Intermediate in Christchurch, I have spent my entire teaching career in Intermediate schools.  These schools have varied in size, decile and have spanned the country. I have a strong belief that middle schooling is one of the most important stages in a young person’s development as they begin forming the characteristics of the adult they will become. Thus it is our professional responsibility to provide learning experiences that challenge and engage all students.

We have many fine examples of Middle Schooling and my hope is that NZAIMS will coordinate PLD allowing successful practices to be shared.

The first main event on this year’s calendar is the Middle Leaders Conference in Auckland, March 30-31. Places are filling fast so please visit the website for details. You can be assured of the relevance of the PLD we are offering, as all will be tailored specifically for the Middle Years.

Please at any time contact myself or other Exec members with questions, concerns or ideas, as we are your representatives. Our newly developed website will be our main means of communication so please check it regularly.

I look forward to working together.

Sharon Keen
