Teaching Council Elections

By NZAIMS inc | Posted: Saturday November 24, 2018

NZAIMS has been asked to share this announcement with members. This is the representation, not previously available to the profession which returns participation in the administration of the professional.

Kia ora,

Nominations open today for candidates for the Teaching Council board elections, which will be held in March 2019.

Teachers will elect board members from across the profession: a teacher and principal from both the primary and secondary sectors, a teacher and leader from Early Childhood Education, and a teacher educator.

Teachers will vote in the sector in which they are working or have most recently worked. They have until 25 January 2019 to nominate candidates.

This is the chance for teachers to have their say in who represents them on their professional body, and we’d like as many as possible to participate. In the last elections held by the Teachers Council voter turnout was less than 14 percent.

We’re asking teachers to make sure we have their current email address, so they can vote online, and make sure they have a current practising certificate or LAT so they’re eligible to vote (the exception is for teacher educators, who need to be registered but do not require practising certificates).

I’d be grateful if you’d use your networks to encourage your members to get involved. Our website will be regularly updated, and we’ll be sending social media posts on Twitter and FaceBook which you may wish to pass on.

I’d be happy to answer any questions.

Ngā mihi,

David Balham
