Welcome to Term Three, may it continue to be settled and as normal as possible in a world full of disarray

Welcome to Term Three, may it continue to be settled and as normal as possible in a world full of disarray.

Term Two had many challenges but we must congratulate ourselves and our staff on providing strong ongoing support in a time of such uncertainty. Most of us reported our young people were excited to return to school, again full credit for creating the safe and secure environments we offer.

During lockdown and the following weeks, I attended regular sector leader Zoom meetings on behalf of the association. One was lead by Iona Holsted, the Secretary of Education for sector leaders and provided a forum to share concerns and assist in next step planning. This has remained a regular weekly catch up. I was also part of a cross-sector group that looked at Teaching and Learning from home. The relevance of this is being reviewed and may evolve into something more curriculum-based.

Discussions around the Leadership Centre and the establishment of the Education Support (or service) Agency (ESA) are the current dominant discussion topics. To date, we have few details but look forward to meeting with both the MOE and Teaching Council when the Executive meets next week.

With most conferences and courses being cancelled we have decided to continue with our Leaders Summit Day in Wellington on November 2. It will be a great opportunity for you to catch up with colleagues and be gain insight into the directions for the next three years in educational matters. Speakers will be confirmed closer to the time. Please see later in this newsletter or on our website for enrolment information.

I hope the term goes well for you. If you ever have issues or concerns we may be able to assist with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Stay safe.
