Welcome to 2018

By NZAIMS inc | Posted: Sunday February 11, 2018

I trust the school year has started well for you and your staff.

The removal of National Standards and the Government Bill proposing the change from’ Education Council’ to ‘The Teachers Council’ makes for a very positive start. I have no doubt we will be operating in times of change and with this, there will be frustrations but I believe we need to support our Minister and value the consultative process he has promised to follow. Sustainable, researched based work takes time.

It is my honour to serve as NZAIMS president for another year. As an Executive we continue to focus on providing quality, age appropriate PLD to our members while retaining a presence in Wellington on the many reference groups and committees. We welcome Angela Lowe, from Newlands Intermediate to the Exec and look forward to a greater input from our Wellington members.

I encourage you to register for this years NZAIMS conference, He Tangata He Tangata. Please bring your school leaders and make the most of the opportunity to learn from the diverse range of presenters.

The 2018 events are listed later in this newsletter. Diary them now as I know over crowded our calendars can become.

Your support last year for our Professional Development events has assured us we are meeting a need both in content and by providing the opportunity for you to extend your networks. We have plans to continue providing a range of diverse PLD opportunities to meet the current needs of our Middle School educators and students.

The strength of our organisation continues to grow. We have a large, and growing member base and are starting to see a greater number of regional groups form. Please keep me up to date with events in your area and do not hesitate to contact us if we can help in any way. Last year Jonathan Tredray and I visited Gisborne and Hawkes Bay and have since hear the local principals are reforming their regional group. Well done.

Best wishes with the year ahead. I look forward to meeting many of you at our 2018 events.
